A parent's story: a personal journey

We have spoken with parents in two families whose children are being treated for obesity using Evira, to give a sense of what the journey can look like.

How long have you used Evira? About six months, though we were first introduced to it a year ago. I was very sceptical at first. The idea of weighing my child every day felt foreign and uncomfortable, and I didn't want standing on a scale to become part of her everyday life, so I said no to begin with. As the treatment developed, Evira was recommended to us again. At one point the clinician showed me the app and how everything worked, more visually, and then it didn't feel as awkward. She explained it directly to my child in a way that made it feel natural to both of us. That was one of my biggest worries as a parent — saying the wrong thing to my child. The clinician has been an invaluable support to us as a family in that.

What made you give Evira a chance anyway? The clinician's patience and the educational way she explained it. She showed me how the measuring device works, gave examples of curves and explained the benefits, which made it less intimidating. I could also see we needed to do something, as my child had continued to gain weight. Eventually I felt ready to try.

How has it been in everyday life? Up and down. At the start it was quite hard to see the curve in black and white. It isn't always fun to look at, but at the same time it motivated me to keep going. The curve has gone both up and down, and I've learned to reflect on what influenced it. It becomes a reminder of what we're doing right — and sometimes of what we need to improve.

How have you found the support from the clinical team through Evira? They are fantastic. They support us all the way and cheer us on even when things don't go as we hope. The most important thing for them is that we keep measuring and don't give up, which has helped me as a parent to keep the right focus and to understand that this is a long-term effort.

Would you recommend Evira to other families in a similar situation? Absolutely — but I think it matters that you get all the information from the beginning and that the clinical team is there to support you, especially at the start. It took me a while to get used to the idea, but now I see that it helps us stay on track and make better choices for my child's health over time.

A parent's story: how Evira changed our everyday life

How do you think Evira has worked for you? It has been very practical and gives good feedback that suits our family. I cook most of the time, and it's valuable to see how certain choices affect weight. The curve helps us see the development without a strict focus on weight.

How do you find contact with the clinical staff through Evira? It works great. The chat makes it easy to communicate directly with the staff, and it's convenient that it's in the same app. That the team at the children's clinic are committed to my son is a prerequisite for this working.

Has Evira had an effect on family life? Absolutely. It has helped us change our eating habits. We eat better as a family, which feels like the biggest win — and I haven't seen any disadvantages.

Would you recommend Evira to other families? Yes, I think it can help many people. It's worth trying if it fits your family's routine. I wish we'd had access to Evira earlier, because then we'd be further ahead today.

The family's best tool

"It has been nice not to be alone in this and to feel that the clinic has been there for us all along, helping with support and messages. It has been wonderful to have a lot of control ourselves while still having access to support from the clinic."
